More Positive News from the Kinamba Community Project
As mentioned in previous updates, Acorn Coaching & Development provide ongoing financial support to the Kinamba Community Project (KCP) near Kigali, Rwanda.
The project provides educational opportunities for the children and teenagers of the Kamutwa communities in the Kinamba area and comprises nursery education, support for students through primary school and into secondary education, along with pathways and support for any who progress through to further education and university.
Youths and adults are also supported via the KCP, with basic numeracy and literacy along with vocational and skills training to help people find meaningful, paid work in order that they can better support themselves and their families.
In the most recent update from Meg Fletcher, founder and CEO of the Project, we heard first-hand from one young adult, Obard Mbarushimana, who is now 21-years old and who first attended KCP schooling back in 2009.
Obard writes of his life and journey with the Project, and the opportunities the KCP has afforded him over the past decade.
Today, Obard is studying ophthalmology at the Hope African University in Burundi-Bujumbura, a study programme which you can appreciate includes numerous complex disciplines: human anatomy and physiology of the eye; surgical and medical semiology; general psychology, medical psychology, human anatomy and human physiology to name just a few.

Meg Fletcher comments in her most recent update: “All our hard work is beginning to show some really good results. When I first started working with the Kinamba Community Project, it was obvious that no one had any idea they may be able to make choices about their lives, just accepting their situation and doing the best they could to survive.”
“I am so proud of the fact that, together, we have been able to raise the aspirations of many young people, some now working and others in higher education.”
Claire Longney, Director at Acorn Coaching & Development: “The Kinamba Community Project struck a chord with us from the moment we became aware of it back in 2019 and have been proud to support it ever since.”
“The focus on providing education and practical skills training doesn’t just benefit the children and young adults, it helps build sustainably and resilience, a platform upon which future generations can hopefully build so that any reliance on projects like Meg’s will gradually lessen.”
“Our intention is to continue to provide financial support for the work of the Kinamba Community Project for the years ahead, especially when we hear such wonderful news from young people like Obard who are embracing every opportunity and realising the chance to achieve their ambitions.”
“For anyone considering also supporting the Project, we can, hand-on-heart, say that we consider this to be money which is very well invested in the futures of these children and their communities.”
